I walked with a zombie: A young Canadian nurse comes to the West Indies to care for the wife of a plantation manager, who suffers from a strange catatonic condition, and learns about local voodoo practices in her search for a cure.
Robert Louis Stevenson's The body snatcher: A surgeon and teacher of anatomy needs fresh cadavers for classroom demonstrations and pays a sinister cabman to supply them. When the cemeteries become more closely guarded, the cabman turns to other means to provide the bodies.

Yes. Without question - These 2 vintage, b&w, horror movies from the mid-1940s are, indeed, super-tame by today's standards of in-your-face terror and gore.

But, all the same - These 2 low-budget fright flicks, about zombies and body snatchers, have noticeably high production values to back them up.

These are the sorts of scary stories that clearly rely on their menacing atmosphere and the strong suggestion of horror in order to send the chills running up your spine, rather than rubbing it right into your face as is so commonly done in today's horror cinema.

The Body Snatchers is a good menacing thriller. Boris Karloff's voice gives a malevolent vibe to the historical tale of forbidden grave robbing for profit.
