On my top-five list of best 20th century US American novels. A must-read. Have not seen much of the film, but it appears to be much different. Read this.

I am Legend is a post-apocalyptic story that tells the story of a man named Robert Neville. He is the last surviving human in the world and is being surrounded and hunted down by bloodthirsty vampires. I enjoyed reading through this book as I haven't read many books written during the 1950s. Around this decade the horror genre was becoming stale but I am Legend delivers a new and exciting tale. It's been widely regarded as an inspiration to many disease apocalypse stories and films. It blends aspects from both Horror and a science fiction setting creating a unique atmosphere and storytelling. The vampires in this book are different from the normal dracula types, they're more disease stricken from a virus and resemble zombies. I am Legend can be considered one of the first books to create the story of a zombie apocalypse and inspired films such as the film I am Legend with the same title as the book. The novel explores concepts such as the nature of humanity and loneliness. I am legend is a great example of what it means to be alone and delivers a great vampire tale.

This book had an interesting concept but was overall a little slow moving. I didn't hate it I just didn't love it!

Robert Neville, the last living man on a future Earth plagued by vampires, endures the psychological horrors of isolation and mental anguish. This is a true classic 1950's era introspective science fiction horror novel.

I read an article about books that were made into movies, and the authors of the books were unhappy with them.
This book was on the list as the author did not like the way the ending was changed.
Having seen the two movies based on this I decided to read it.
The end is dramatically different. But the ending in the book is fatalist and not very exciting. So I can see why there was such a difference.
I really enjoyed this book. It is the start of a genre of dystrophic society surviving after a man made catastrophe and you can see how influences other authors such as Stephen King. The prologue written by him is very interesting as well.

Before you see the big budget Will Smith movie, you should read the book. It's a must for fans of post-apocalyptic fiction! It was also the basis for the Charlton Heston sci-fi thriller, "The Omega Man," which substituted flesh eating mutants for vampires.

A fascinating exposition about what it means to be a monster cleverly wrapped into a chilling horror classic. The book is indescribably better than any filmed versions (all of which remove the meaning of the title completely in my opinion), and one I consistently recommend for others to read. It's short and easy to get through, driven by fast-paced dialogue and just enough description.

Not until the third section of this novel does the narrator discover the answer to living in his haunted word: he must discard fear, ignorance, superstition, and longing for the past. He must embrace knowledge, strength, and a sure path to his own survival. Other than that unique character element, this is a fairly standard apocalyptic survival story.

I Am Legend – ‘Where it all began.’ As previously reported it is not at all like the movie starring Will Smith. I’m glad I read it but apart from the first story, the other shorter stories were confusing at times. I would not give this book my highest endorsement. Doctor-at-Bass! T. A

Violence: Violence with guns and other weapons. Constantly appears throughout the movie. Barely any bloodshed.

Bacteria could be the answer to the vampire.
