Director Anthony Mann is best-known for his series of westerns with Jimmy Stewart and epics like "El Cid." But before he achieved more mainstream recognition, he made tough, taut b-noir pictures like "Railroaded," "Raw Deal," and "T-Men." Working fast and with a small budget, he nonetheless managed to make films both stylish and gritty. In this movie, an innocent man is "railroaded" by a menacing thug (John Ireland) and his sister and a cop try to set him free. There's a very cool final shoot out in a dark club. A must for noir fans.

1947's "Railroaded" is a "tough-as-nails" little, b-grade Crime/Thriller that, as an added bonus, contains a wonderful knock-down, drag-out, hair-pulling catfight between the heroine and a gangster's moll._____ Railroaded stars Hugh Beaumont (in his pre-Leave It To Beaver days) as police detective, Mickey Ferguson._____ While trying to clear young Steve Ryan (who's being falsely accused of taking part in a bold daylight robbery/murder), Ferguson soon encounters the vicious gangster, Duke Martin, who, besides being a well-known cop-killer, loves nothing more than to shove and slap his women around, especially when out in public._____ Railroaded, which was filmed in b&w, is a fast-paced Drama that has a running-time of only 74 minutes.
