Ingalls and Macdonald do a great job presenting a vivid storyline of a young girl who loves music. While Mary Lou Williams grew up to be a jazz legend on the piano, this story shows a young girl with a dream that she follows to the end. An inspiring tale of determination and passion, young children will enjoy the book that is sure to teach them to follow their dreams. The illustrations add beauty and personality to the story, enhancing the moods and emotions of the time. While the story presents a true story with a historical background, kids won’t be too bogged down in the details as they enjoy the story of a young girl just like them.
