A modern twist on the original Beauty and the beast, Beastly was captivating from the start. The plot revolves around a teenage boy, Kyle, who has everything, from looks to money. But those same things become his enemy when a witch casts a spell on him because he is rude and depends on his looks for everything. The spell turns him into a hairy monster (like the beast from beauty and the beast) and because of this Kyle has to go into hiding, drop out of school, and live alone, unless he finds someone who can love him for who he is on the inside despite his hideousness. Kyle gives up hope until he sees Linda, a girl from his school. One day her father breaks into Kyle’s house and when Kyle catches him he trades his daughter for his freedom. The story then goes on about Kyle falling in love with Lindy, showing her who he really is, and learning important life lessons. Personally, I always loved beauty and the beast as a kid and I have seen many adaptations of it but nothing like this one. Both Linda and Kyle were very interesting and even with separate lives you could find how both of their lives were similar and how they were meant for each other. It was very well written and I didn’t feel like putting it down once I started. The author Alex Flinn really knows how to get the attention of her audience. I loved this book soooo much. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the modern beauty and the beast and I would also recommend other Alex Flinn books such as Towering.
