"Dude, what if there was, like, another earth? And, like, another you?" 2011's "Another Earth" has a premise that is half-clever and half what you'd expect some stoned college students to come up with. While I appreciate that it's a film that takes a sci-fi premise and does something different and unexpected, this film, as others have pointed out, is very, very slow and does almost nothing with its "another earth" plot. Much of the story has to do with the protagonist (Brit Marling), who killed a man's wife and child in a drunk driving accident. Years later, she goes to apologize to the man (William Mapother), but ends up working for him and falling in love with him. Marling, who co-wrote and produced, is currently on Netflix's "The OA," and I can't decide if she's deliberately acting in a stilted, awkward way or she's simply a poor actor. Did I mention how slow this film is?
