The author, distinguished scientist at the World Wildlife Fund, describes many research expeditions to WWF's priority places (biodiverse hotspots) in Asia, South America, Africa and North America. He details what constitutes rarity and what causes it with examples of many wondrous creatures. He also makes a convincing case for the need for conservation of these beautiful, unique places and what we can do to help.
