a Memoir

Andre Dubus III, son of the writer Andre Dubus II, shares his harrowing growing-up years with readers. When his parents divorce in the 1970s, his mother moves from one rental house to another in depressed Haverhill, Massachusetts while working at low-paying jobs. His father moves into faculty housing at Bradford College with a new wife and family. Dubus and his three siblings find different ways of coping with poverty and fear. As the years pass, the author discovers writing which becomes a bridge for re-connecting with his father. Raw, violent, and ultimately hopeful, this memoir leaves a lasting impression. I listened to the audio version read by the author which was excellent.
