I love that this book exists. Though I am thrilled there are more and more books being published for teens and early learners about transgender youth, this topic is scarcely found for middle grades, and this is the core audience that needs these supportive, educational novels. The same can also be said about books focusing on mental illness. Teens have a plethora of these, but children and tweens really don't, especially about bipolar disorder. But there is more to why I love that this book exists. Our main characters will make you think and feel deeper: Lily, who only her closest friends know is transgender, and Dunkin, who only his family knows he has bipolar disorder. The plot will make you cry at least a couple of times. This book will encourage you to question why society stigmatizes people for simply being born differently and to see everyone for who they feel they truly are.
