Welcome to space, where the skirts are short, the abs are rock hard, and all the aliens are sexually compatible. Oh, and no one can travel faster than light if they're older than 25. Strap into a flying love pentagon and join a sarcastic group of misfits as they spin out some trope-tastic (think knocking out the guards and wearing their uniforms) galactic adventures. In a lot of ways, it feels like classic Star Trek that leans hard into the sexy, sexy cheese. Given the amount of space kids crushing on each other, it's surprisingly not salacious and a fun time for all. Funny, enjoyable, and a great set-up for the sequel, I recommend this one for both teen and adult sci-fi readers, but you should be ready for the campy, predictable whirlwind that it is. In many ways, it feels like a tabletop RPG (players have their roles, ridiculous ideas somehow work, NPC's drop big hints when the party can't figure out what to do next) but the final product works. I'd give it 5 stars except for the overuse of ex machina.
