Out of Darkness

the Story of Louis Braille
Jun 22, 2014writermala rated this title 4.5 out of 5 stars
This is a biography of Louis Braille. Never has a more beautiful, poignant book been written. Louis was not born blind; rather a childhood accident plunged him into darkness. Through hard work and dedication he pulled himself out of darkness - the result was "braille" the system of reading and writing for the blind. This system, which Louis Braille founded in the nineteenth century is in use even today with little modification. The world owes a great debt to Louis Braille and we as readers likewise owe Russell Freedman a debt for bringing us this story of Louis Braille. The book may be a biography for children, but adults will enjoy it too.
