yes, this is george's masterpiece. if you want to introduce a neophyte to george harrison, this is the one to play. a neophyte that can actually listen, that is . just go down the track list; there is not a loser, there. produced by phil spector, infamous for his 'wall of sound' approach to record production. it features a neophyte percussionist, name phil collins, on bongos, on the track, WAH-WAH. young phil did not understand about spector's method of production, which consisted of multiple takes, until he got the one he liked, and then, on from there. so phil bongoed like mad on every take, causing a case of very sore hands. for back-up singers, it was george himself, multiply-tracked into a choir of sympatico tones. the break-out single MY SWEET LORD, is here, ably abetted by the Welsh Apple group, BADFINGER. George's best buddy, Eric Clapton plays guitar throughout, as did Dave Mason. Ringo played drums, as did Jim Gordon. Beatle john lennon, who was recording PLASTIC ONO BAND, down the hall (at Abbey Road Studios), dropped into the control room, offering moral support, for awhile./ To repeat, George Harrison's masterpiece. ( If you are a Dylan fan, there is one track co-written with him , and one stand alone, which Olivia Newton John recorded and made a hit to help rocket her early career ). BEHIND THAT LOCKED DOOR is fabulous, and in my opinion, should have been released as a country single 45. RUN OF THE MILL is a song of inspiration,(remeniscent of THE DESIDERATA),and a song which i played for my disco dancing date in Concord, one evening . No beat, did not make a good impression. 8 track player not very good fidelity. Should have called her for a second date but was too embarassed, was sure she could not have liked me, not even a little. Later she committed suicide, from loneliness. Drag. News of this was gotten to me,through the CAT grapevine, much later.
