Event description

Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic with Dr. Lindsey Stewart

In The Conjuring of America, Lindsey Stewart, a Black feminist philosopher, unearths the magical and healing traditions of Black women — from conjure and herbal remedies to ritual, myth and everyday resistance — arguing that these practices have deeply shaped American culture in both obvious and overlooked ways. Her work not only reconstructs lost histories but also inspires readers to see how the spiritual, creative and communal legacies of conjure women continue to thrive and influence our lives today.
