I was impressed with how the author expertly portrayed racism, poverty, and immigration from a 10 year-old's point of view. These difficult subjects are sometimes hard to talk about, but Yang did so in a way that connects with young readers. I really enjoyed this one.

This is one of the few times that I've been able to say that I liked the sequel better than the original. Scythe was wonderful, but Thunderhead was something special. It was fast-paced, action-packed, and the characters tugged on my heartstrings.

Comment:

This was a tough read, but I loved every minute of it. What made Dry so interesting (and at times, scary) was how real it was. This story of a catastrophic drought that turns Southern California into a warzone could potentially happen in real life. I found myself asking what I would do in that situation more than once.
