This is the first book in a YA/Teen romantic fantasy duology and it had me hooked from start to finish. Rune is a witch who makes it her mission to save other witches from being purged by the government. In order to gain inside information to save more witches, she begins courting Gideon, captain of the Blood Guard, whose job it is to find and persecute witches. It is a gripping and fast-paced read that kept me guessing. I loved this unique story. The three main characters are very different but their stories align so well. There were such different settings, from a prison, to a bird research laboratory, to a cozy bookshop. This book made me cheer, cry, and reflect. 10 people on a snowy getaway vacation end up trapped in a cabin where they are slowly being murdered off one by one. This was a great book to read during a snowstorm because it was so atmospheric and claustrophobic. The reason behind my lower rating is that I guessed the killer very early on in the book. By the time I reached the end and learned I was right, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a less predictable twist.
