Little Badger manages to wrap up a mystery, some fantasy, and a lot of adventure into a compelling YA novel. It's a perfect blend of myth and mayhem, with a side of dog. Ellie can bring ghosts to life. But not human ghosts. Everyone knows that's not a good idea. When her cousin is murdered, Ellie, with the help of her friends, family, and ghost dog work together to put things right. And put her cousin back where he now belongs.

Winston digs in and examines both sides of Ted and Elinor's relationship. There are many things I like about this story, but I didn't quite buy a few other things.

I love the kooky characters in this novel. Zigman brings laughs, tears, and sensitivity to issues of anxiety, depression, and isolation with kindness and good humor.

It was fun remembering the jokes of my childhood. Even more, it's interesting how Hudgins put them in the context of cultural events, and shows how jokes evolve with the times.

This is everything I want in a quick weekend read. There's the cult, climate change, relationships, impending pandemics; all requiring huge decisions be made under intense pressure. It's smart and engaging.
